$40 a Day with Rachel RayFood Network’s $40 a Day traveled to South Beach with its star host and crew staying and shooting a segment at The National Hotel. While visiting South Beach, Rachael Ray attempted to taste the exciting city on just $40 in one day. Her day begin with a stroll along the National Infinity Pool and discussion of the hotel’s Art Deco interiors. After leaving the historic National Hotel, Rachel started her day with healthy smoothie at The Smoothie Shop, then for lunch she had a Cuban sandwich at Larios on the Beach, followed by a refreshing popsicle martini at The Tides Hotel mid-afternoon, and a couple of tapas dishes at Tapas Y Tintos. Rachael managed to stay within her $40 budget and get a great taste of the destination.Firefly Productions for F/X Fear FactorFirefly Productions heated up The National’s pool area with interstitials for Fear Factor’s syndication on F/X network. Firefly Productions who brought filming for the hot F/X series Nip Tuck to The National returned with the cable network to produce interstitials (transition commercials) for Fear Factor’s syndication on the network. The interstitials filmed featured drink specialties made at The National’s pool bar with Jose Cuervo Tequila and Parrot Bay Rum. These recipe segments lead viewers from commercials breaks back to Fear Factor showings. The National Hotel set the tropical stage for the cocktails made during these highly involved interstitial shoots.Federated Department StoresFederated Department Stores whose stores include Macys and Bloomingdales continuously conduct print campaign photo shoots at The National Hotel. Federated acquired the hotel’s longtime client Burdines, "The Florida Store," last year making it part of the Macys brand but those behind years of successful Burdines shoots at The National continued to recommend the location for its production savvy service and one-of-a kind settings, which have always provided the perfect background for photographing their products.MTV Video Music AwardsThe National was one of MTV’s host hotels for its Video Music Awards shows, held in Miami in 2004 and 2005. Many of the network’s VMA production team was stationed at the hotel prior and during the awards show. In 2005 MTV took the award show to another level including satellite performances at some of South Beach coolest hotels, which gave The National Hotel center stage. One of the greatest highlights of this year’s show was Mariah Carey’s large scale performance of hit songs "Shake it Off" and "We Belong Together" featuring cameos by Jermaine Dupri, Jadakiss and Styles P. The production included two-day’s of extensive set-up, production offices for set-up, wardrobe, and staging, and over 100 cast and crew to create a magical Mariah performance.Following are some of those who have selected The National Hotel for press junkets, as a location and/or for a production home base.
